12 Highland Road

In 1878, Mr. and Mrs. John Higgins built a house on this site.  Mr. Higgins was born in Ireland and moved to the United States at an early age. He was considered an honest, hard working man.  Mrs. Higgins died in September of 1897 and Mr. Higgins in March of the following year.  They left five children and the house became the property of a son, John.  A local newspaper reported in 1936 that “fire destroyed or damaged a large extent of the house on Highland occupied by John Higgins and family.”  The present house on this site could have been rebuilt from the old one or, more likely, a new residence constructed.
