Historic Structure Beautification
& Restoration Grant

In appreciation and respect for the character of historic Geneseo, the Association for the Preservation of Geneseo supports ongoing restoration to preserve and enhance historic structures in the village.

Details

  • The APOG Beautification & Restoration Grant assets property owners in a wide variety of projects designed to preserve and enhance historic structures.

  • APOG Grants are awarded for a maximum of $500 each.  The annual number of grants awarded is subject to available funding.

  • Grants are given for projects completed during the July to June fiscal year in which application is made.

  • Grant funding is provided to the vendor supplying the work or to the homeowner upon submission of paid invoices indicating completion of work.  Funding is not received until work is completed.

Criteria

  • Grant funding is restricted to external restoration of structures including homes and businesses in the village of Geneseo.  Improvement must be visible from the sidewalk so as to be appreciated by all.

  • Restoration must utilize historically appropriate materials.

  • Painting, asphalt, and landscaping projects are not eligible for funding.

  • Non-visible restoration vital to preserving structural integrity of a historic structure may be considered eligible for funding.  Maintenance-related, visible projects do not qualify.

Eligible residential projects include: restoration of porches, trim/lattice, porticos, walkways, fabric awnings, and front entranceways, as well as other repair work that enhances the historical integrity of the structure.

Eligible business/non-residential projects include: restoration of store fronts, facades, fabric awnings, and front entranceways, as well as other repair work that enhances the historical integrity of the structure.

Application Process

  • Complete Application form

  • Provide a full description of the project. Include drawings, colors, etc. if applicable.

  • Provide approximate cost of the project. Include estimates from contractors, artisans, or other individuals who are doing the actual work.

  • Submit application form and attachments by July 31st to:

Approval Process

The APOG Awards committee and Board of Trustees will review applications.  Those selected for awards will receive notification by August 31st.


APOG Rental Property Beautification & Restoration Grant

  • The APOG  Rental Property Beautification & Restoration Grant assists rental property owners in a wide variety of projects designed to preserve and enhance rental properties.

  • APOG Grants are awarded for a maximum of $500 each. The annual number of grants awarded is subject to available funding.

  • Grants are given for projects completed during the July to June fiscal year.

  • Grant funding is provided to the vendor supplying the work or to the rental property owner upon submission of paid invoices indicating completion of work.  Funding is not received until work is completed.

  • Grant funding is restricted to external restoration of rental property in the village of Geneseo.  Improvement must be visible from the sidewalk so as to be appreciated by all.

  • Restoration must utilize historically appropriate materials.

Eligible rental projects include: restoration of porches, trim/lattice, porticos, walkways, fabric awnings, and front entranceways, as well as other repair work that enhances the historical integrity of the structure.  Unlike APOG’s residential and business grants, painting and landscaping may be considered.
