56 North Street

2008

The Livingston Republican of May 1874 carried the following notice: “James Nunn just finished building a house on North Street at the cost of $2000.” James Nunn was in the lumber business. The November 1875 issue of the same paper carried this advertisement: “House and lot for sale on North Street – the Nunn place – new throughout, good outbuildings and plenty of trees.” A deed dated the same year shows that Mr. Nunn lost his property to Charles Armstrong due to default on the mortgage. Charles Armstrong died in 1885, but the next record to be found was again in an issue of the Livingston Republican of March 1906. It stated that “William Nixon purchased the house known as the Armstrong house on North Street.” He and his wife lived here and we know that their son was killed in action during World War I in France.
