8 Second Street

2006

This house was probably built about 1850 and changed hands several times until the mid 1850’s when it came into the hands of James Wadsworth who used it as rental property.  During the 1860’s it was occupied by Benjamin Gill, a blacksmith. Benjamin Gill served in the field with General Wadsworth during the early years of the Civil War. Gill moved west in the 1870’s and the house was sold to Isabella and Anna Gordon, sisters. Isabella died in 1884 and after Anna’s death in 1899 the house was sold to Anna Aiken who lived here until her death in 1935. The original front porch was removed from this house and the small entrance added.
