92-100 Main Street
In 1985, the Scoville building was built to replace a block that burned in 1972. The block was known as the “Scherline block” because Scherline’s Department Store operated here for many years. Although the fire completely destroyed this block, the buildings to the north (90 Main Street) and the south (108 Main Street) were protected by fire walls. According to firefighters on the scene, “the walls in McDonald’s Clothing Store on the south and Western Auto on the north barely got warm.”
